The everyday perspective of climate change

The importance of climate-proofing is already top-of-mind for the residents of Woerden and Kockengen. Prolonged periods of drought result in peat degradation in surrounding polders, creating a fluctuation of groundwater levels. The subsidence of the low moor peat means that many public areas are flooded after heavy rainfall.

The impact that this has on the quality of life for residents has provoked a strong social reaction. Residents actively work with the municipality to take on these issues through various projects.
